UK’s Leading Welder Generator Supplier Shindaiwa has recently supplied a number of its Eco500 Diesel Welder Generators to Castleford based CSW Process Limited. The machines were purchased to complete a large prestigious pipe welding application in Bristol City centre which is being completed by CSW Process.
Bristol is one of the first places in the country to invest in a low carbon underground heating network which transports hot water to homes and businesses around the city. The nett zero carbon system, sometimes called district heating has been adapted from Scandinavian heating technologies and eliminates the need for traditional high carbon emitting heating systems. Currently supplying over 1000 premises around Bristol, the system is being expanded to supply further buildings around the city with the aim of making Bristol one of the UK’s first carbon neutral cities.
The complex job of laying pipework for the system is being undertaken by CSW Process Limited. The task involves careful excavation of existing underground cables and services and laying of new pipework in pre fabricated sections which are up to 20m in length. Pipes are welded together in situ before being subject to an NDT or Non Destructive Test inspection. Once joints are welded and tested they also need to be insulated and sealed using a plastic butt fusion welding system. Each joint is finally equipped with an electrical test and monitoring system which is connected to a central plant room, ensuring any future problems are detected and quickly rectified.

The Shindiwa Eco500 machines are equipped with a large 18kVA 3 phase generator and allow for simultaneous use of the generator whilst offering duel operator welding outlets. With CC/CV and Celulosic modes the machine can be used for MIG, MMA and TIG welding whilst offering excellent arc characteristics for pipe welding using cellulosic electrodes.
